Can be found in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Belize, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. They are normally seen at or just above sea level in coastal and lowland areas, as well as inland in warmer locations in the southern parts of their range in Central America. The birds are non-migratory. |
Characteristics and Identification |
Has distinctive cinnamon underparts and metallic green upperparts. The male's red bill with a black tip is a key feature, as is the female's black bill with red at the base. Typically has a deep cinnamon rufous tail with bronze tips. |
