Can be found in many of the countries of South America, including Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Guyana, Suriname, Frenh Guyana and Paraguay. It lives in a variety of semi-open to open landscapes including the borders of humid forests, clearings within forest, savannas, and scrubby woodland. The bird can be seen from sea level to 1,500 m (4,900 ft). |
Characteristics and Identification |
The male features a straight, black bill, a forked tail and an amethyst throat with a white band across the chest. The female has whitish underparts with green spots on the throat and a short tail. |
