Characteristics and Identification
A large hummingbird with a long bill, flat head and big tail. Male has a green throat and violet-blue, purple crown. Adult female has green upperparts, grayish underparts, and a white streak extending behind the eye. Also called Rivoli’s Hummingbird until the mid-1980s.
